Editor's Comments: This is a well-written article and very
true in today's "get rich quick" atmosphere. A lot of
people are finally realizing that the Internet is not the
cash cow they had dreamed it to be. Some give up, some keep
going.
------------------------------------------------------------

Please, forgive me, but today I am going to sound harsh.
Just got a note from one of the customers in my town. John
owns a landscaping business and 3 months ago decided to take
his company cyber. Well, guess what his note today said:
"Haven't got any feedback from the web site so, please,
close my account".

John has invested a total of $60 ($20 a month) into his web
site, and 5 minutes of his time to fill out the form. The
web site was automatically generated based on the informat-
ion he put in, so there is no extra work involved.

Then John just got back to his business, waiting to see
what happens. As many of you already realize - NOTHING
HAPPENED.

No freebie was offered, no e-mail addresses were collected
for future contact, no special offers were posted... What
exactly did John expect to happen? Thousands of visitors to
pour to his web site? But he didn't submit his URL to any
of the Search Engines either. Nor did he promote his web
site on any of the places where his potential customers
might hang out.

Or may be John was hoping to increase his bottom line
through an idle web site? Nope, not happening either.

You will be surprised how many people give up after 3-4
months of having a web site, complaining that it's not
bringing the results they were hoping for. Some even go as
far as spending the time and money building the site, but
then leave it alone and wait for the sales to pour in.

I think I know what the problem is.

Many business owners think of a web site as just another ad.
"I have a web site, so now more people will know about my
company".

But there is no magic in the air - to make a penny from your
web site you must not only build it but let the world know
it's there. Search Engines, directories, forums, news-
letters, articles, and freebies are only a few ways to do
that.

Subscribe to a couple of online marketing e-zines and you
will have plenty ideas of how to reach your target customer.
Sign up for a free teleclass (teleclass.com) and get a
chance to hear how experts and other business owners market
their web sites.

Remember: there is no magic wand that will take your web
site and market it for you. Be pro-active. Do something
every day to promote your web site, and you will see the
results from your web site. Do nothing - and you will be
the next "John" asking to cancel his web site.

From The Webmaster
by Aaron Turpen, Editor
------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to this week's newsletter. A lot of things are hap-
pening this coming month (besides the Holiday rush)! I'll
try to tackle each issue one at a time.

I have contacted each of you who will be effected
individually to tell you about the server being moved to a
new location this weekend. This will have several benefits
including faster transfer speeds (about +10%), better prov-
isions to handle more usage, FOUR redundant connections to
ensure speed and reliability, and more. The new facility
also has a faster network, more space, and better physical
security. This should all make the inconvenience worth-
while. The biggest bonus to this new setup will be the
inclusion of another IP address (related to the backup
above) and the ability to ad more IPs in the future - which
is required should you want a secure link, for example. The
move should go seemlessly without any "hiccups" or loss of
data. Backups will be made at the last moment before the
server moves to ensure that no unforseen accident will
cause permanent damage.

The next issue is a preview of the new resource which will
be added to the website - "How To Read Your Log Analysis
Report." This will be added to the "Resources" area of
the website so that it will be easily accessed as needed.
I wrote this because I realized that a lot of you were
having trouble understanding and using your monthly log
analyses. This should answer most questions and make life
a little easier for everyone. The article can be seen at:
http://www.aaronzwebworkz.com/webreport.html

The next thing I'd like to talk about is an ongoing
project I began a short while ago and have been working on
as time permits: www.HuffakerPack154.org. I was asked to
build a website for a Cub Scout Den (Den 154) in Reno,
Nevada. I was a Cub and Boy Scout as a teenager and have
a lot of fond memories from that time - some of the best
of those years, in fact. I am a strong believer in the
things to be gained by being active in the Boy Scouts of
America programs. I thought I would mention this new
site here because I realize that some of you have children
and at least two of you have children who are Cub Scouts
themselves. This site is fledgeling now, but will only
get better and better. This week saw the addition of a
new games area on the site where people can post their
piece to a neverending story and coming soon will be a
Mad Libs(tm)-style game as well!

The next item is the upcoming Holiday itself. Christmas,
Hannuka, Kwanzaa, etc. are coming up towards the end of
the month. I will be going out of town to see family
during the week of the 23rd. I will do my best to keep
tabs (checking email and the server's status among other
things) and the newsletter's delivery time will not be
affected by this vacation. My email address will have
an autoresponse, but I will read each email!

The last item of business is a new hosting option which
will be added to the services I offer. This new option
was created in response to some potential clients who I
sent proposals to and who responded that they thought my
hosting options were too limited. They wanted a cheaper,
smaller alternative.

This new plan (which will be called Plan 1-Budget) will
offer the following:
* $5/month (billed yearly at $60)
* 50 megabytes of site space
* 2 gigabytes a month bandwidth limit
* No POP3 email and no access to any server options
excepting CGI support

If you are interested in this plan and wish to change
your hosting option to this new one, please contact me.
The preview page for this new item is located at:
http://www.aaronzwebworkz.com/newhost.html

That covers it this week! Have a good week and let me
know if you have any questions.

Editor's Comments: This article has whimsy, character, and
a good point. It ties in nicely with the focus of this
week's newsleter.
------------------------------------------------------------

When I was a little girl, I used to love to play "name the
cloud." I bet you played this too. I remember lying on my
back in the yard and watching as the clouds passed overhead.
As the wind blew the clouds across the sky, the clouds would
change shape. It was more fun to play with someone else,
because two people could look at the same cloud and see
something different.

Look, a three-headed dragon just floated by. No, now it's a
cow with a really big hump on the back. Wait, it's now a
celery stalk racing across the sky. Oh, no. The cloud is
gone. What fun it was.

OK, I will admit that I played this game earlier this week
while watching out my office window. Clouds came, and
clouds went. All the while the wind was blowing across my
viewing screen, they shape-shifted. And then I noticed the
tree.

The same wind that was blowing on the clouds and causing
them to shape-shift was just merely bending the branches of
the tree. The tree bent with the wind, but it still
remained a tree. The tree didn't shape-shift, nor did it
fade away. It remained true, strong, and straight because
it had a good root system holding it up.

The cloud is a cloud because it was created that way, and
the tree was created to be a tree. But you as a business
owner can choose how you are going to do business. Are you
going to be a shape-shifter like the cloud, or are you going
to remain rooted like the tree?

All of us have winds that blow through our lives. The winds
are inevitable. There will be times when your business
grows - you reach more clients, you receive more orders.
And there will be times when your business slows. There
will be times when everything just seems to be clicking
along at a smooth pace. And there will be times when
everything seems to go wrong at once.

When the wind blows through your business, will you
immediately give up on what you are doing and look for
another business opportunity to try for a while - shape-
shifting as you cross the sky? Will you give up saying
there's too much wind for you to be prosperous and fade
away entirely?

Or, will you bend with the wind and only allow it to affect
your branches and not who you are or what you are doing?
Will you remain fixed and stable because you have laid a
solid root foundation in your business and built it slowly
and steadily?

In the end, the choice is up to you. As for me, I'm
choosing to be a tree. What's your choice?

Editor's Comments: This article immediately caught my eye
and even made me smile. First off, it's hilarious. Second,
it's true. Third, it mentions fishing. What more could you
ask for?
------------------------------------------------------------

This article is pure gold! Nothing like this has ever been written, nor
will be. Learn now the deepest secrets behind making HUGE profits
from instant sales.

The POWER of the Internet will explode profits right into your bank
account! Supercharge your sales system with time proven easy
methods. Your six figure income dreams are about to become reality!

Why?

Because I'm writing using big terms making everything sound super
wonderful, that's why! And for no other reason!

I read an article the other day that flat out said the reason all of the
BIG marketers are so successful is because they make everything
sound bigger and better than it really is.

Hmmm. I bet all of the BIG marketers catch a lot of BIG fish, too.

You know, I went fishing last weekend and caught a 47 pound
largemouth bass using a piece of sour apple taffy on a barbless size 12
hook and sewing thread tied to the bumper of my car. Yep, that bass
hit that taffy hard, so I punched the throttle of the car and jerked that
sucker clean out of the water. As I saw it flying, I popped the trunk of
the car, and as soon as I heard him land inside, I headed home and
told my wife to fire up the skillet!

Want to send me $29.95 now so I can teach you how to fish?

Most people I know don't argue with old fisherman and their
incredible stories, but listening to them doesn't cost anything either.

Does anybody argue with the BIG marketers, though? No. Why?
Because we all know they are making money. And how do we
know that? Because they have made OUR money!

Maybe making it rich strikes deeper in our hearts than catching a large
fish does, but what happens to our nose for sniffing out the stench of a
load of B.S. when it comes to reading marketing sales copy?

Oh yeah, we're all allergic to being poor and it stuffs us up so we can't
smell.

Am I trying to cut anybody down here? No, not really. I mean, I love
both fishing and Internet marketing. It's just that I've always made my
points on the opposite side of the fence. If I tell you I caught a big
fish, I'll back that up by getting it out of the freezer and having you
over for dinner.

In truth, some of the BIG marketers DO deliver what they promise.
You do need to be careful, however, because there are plenty that
don't.

Realize that even though the sales copy is written so that is sounds like
their deepest desire is to help you out, the true overall objective is to
make sales. That's ok, that's what we are all trying to do. I like
making money just as much as the next guy. I'm just saying be sure
you know exactly what you are going to get for your money before
you spend it. Don't buy into something on the hype of what it might
do for you. Demand to KNOW what it WILL do.

There are marketers who deliver on their promises and do their best
to be supportive of their product or service, however, there are plenty
that are too concerned about making the next sale to follow up on
yours.

Make sure you are getting what you want before you buy. If you're
not sure that you will, ask questions. If they are unwilling to answer,
more than likely their fish isn't as big as they said it was.

As for real fishermen, there's only been one that ever fed as many
people with his fish as he claimed he could.

That was Jesus, and he over delivered.

As far as I know, though, Jesus isn't involved in Internet marketing,
so trust carefully.

Why You Aren't Making Money Online
by Grady Smith
(C) 2001 by Grady Smith

Grady Smith offers FREE e-books to get you started
making money online fast. His new manual, “Get Rich
Online” is available showing how he made an online
profit in only 5 days. Stop by to check it out and get
your FREE e-books http://www.mountainhighpub.com

Editor's Comments: This article is very true and fits with
my own experience with the Internet. I have created
several websites only to see them disappear because the
person I made them for did not treat his or her site as a
business instead of a hobby.
------------------------------------------------------------

Here’s a very disturbing fact:

95% of people that make an attempt to start an online
business will spend more than they make. In time,
after not realizing a profit, they will throw in the
towel and give up.

Does this sound familiar? Are you spending more than
you’re making? Or, are the profits you’re pulling in
so low that you don’t understand how someone can make
a full time living online?

Rest easy. I was in your shoes at one time. But now I
am happy to report that I’m in the 5 percentile that
makes a full-time living online.

Here’s how I rose above from the other 95% and made a
lot of money online.

First, I want you to put aside the thought of
overnight riches. Sadly, it rarely works that way. I
can say that I made a decent profit online in under a
week, but I spent over a year researching how I was
going to do it.

And that’s the real secret to making money online. You
can’t jump in without an idea of what you’re going to
do and expect that everything will take care of
itself. That’s a pipe dream that many cling to. But
it’s a very bad way to approach an online business.

Think about it. Let’s assume I want to be a computer
programmer. Without a lick of experience I begin to
drop my resume off at every business in town. Do you
think I’m going to be offered a job and profit from
being a computer programmer even though my only
experience is running a cash register?

To acquire a job as a programmer, I would need to go
to college. I would spend thousands getting a degree,
and spend years learning the subject so I’m prepared.

But most feel that they can turn an online profit
without an education. Why should it be any different?
After all, the Internet is still the real world.

The reason I make a profit online is that I understand
this reality. I know that to make money online I need
to possess the right skills. So I spend time and
invest money in my “education“.

I bought books that would show me what I needed. I
learned web design through a few e-books I purchased.
I learned the secrets of online marketing through
other materials. I purchased countless products that
taught me different methods to create online products
that would sell. I’m still learning everyday, spending
money to make money.

So, you really want to make a living online? Trust me,
it’s a great way to run your own business and do
whatever you want with your time. But it’s a real
business. One that can take time to grow.

To profit, you can never give up. Set your sights on
some powerful dreams that motivate you. Think of how
nice it will be one you can call all the shots. No
more time clock. Plenty of time to do the activities
you enjoy. Call in sick when you don’t feel like
working. Sleep in as late as you want with no one to
answer to.

Spend time learning the skills you need and buy
products that will help you achieve your goals. Ask
others that are making money online for their help.
Get a consultant. Pay someone to write sales copy or
design a website if you don’t want to take the time to
learn. And just keep pushing on. Soon, with time,
you’ll reap the rewards of running your online
business if you just invest the time and money into
reaching your dreams.
