Editor's Comments: We'ved talked about "real-world" market- ing before, but a review and new perspective should help those of you who are looking to press forward this holiday season. ------------------------------------------------------------ First of all let me say that having spent the past 20 years working closely with small businesses I know exactly what works when it comes to offline advertising.
What I have found today is that that online businesses have a built in advantage when it comes to promoting their business offline. You already have a website and auto- responder in place to lead your prospect to. When you combine that fact along with the traditional capture methods of telephone and snail mail there is no reason any online business can't use offline methods to build their businesses and sell their products and services.
A lot of online based businesses forget about offline advertising. I know I have. It is important to combine offline and online advertising together in your marketing campaign. This will give you a more well rounded approach to promoting as well as attract potential prospects and customers you might not otherwise get.
In all your offline advertising you want to include your web site address, e-mail or autoresponder addresses, and your phone number and mailing address. This gives you the appearance of a real bonafide business.
Another thing is to start selling products for manufacturers who offer co-op advertising for promoting their products. You can read a little more about this technique in an article I wrote titled "Why Are You Wasting Free Advertising Money?" http://sites-plus.com/articles/article2.html
Finally you need to view offline marketing as a long term commitment. I've seen businesses over and over run and ad, not get the response they were looking for and quit.
This will not work offline. Or online for that matter. You need to establish a budget and stick to it. That doesn't mean that you can't change the ad copy if your response is marginal. It just means if you are going to run classified ads for example that you run them for a period of time and allow them to do their job.
Here are 10 offline marketing ideas. Use as many of these as possible to move your business forward.
- Classified Newspaper Ads- Place classified ads in news- papers. Local newspapers often have great advertising rates that you can take advantage of to promote your business. Here's a great source for running classified ads. http://www.nationwideadvertising.com
- Put up flyers. They could be in computer stores, libraries, restaurants, car windshields, or anywhere you shop that allows flyers.
- Direct mail. A nice direct mail piece when done consistently over a period of time can bring tremendous exposure for your business. The biggest benefit of direct mail is it allows you to reach thousands of people at a bulk mail rate. You could not do this if you had to mail each piece individually.
- Buy time on local cable T.V. It is surprisingly affordable and if you commit to a block of advertising you can develop Top Of Mind Awareness. TOMA is being there when they want or need you. If you are an affiliate or in an MLM consider doing group advertising and spreading the cost out over several of you. You can have leads routed into one phone number and divied out to all advertisers or have each ad display a different phone number.
- Pass out your CD-ROM or diskette business cards at special events. It could be at trade shows, seminars, fairs, etc.
- Get 250 free business cards here and leave them everywhere you go. http://www.vistaprint.com
- Hold a free offline class and teach people how to use their computer or how to use the internet. You could have your web site on display as an example.
- Give away promotional items such as free mouse pads. Put your advertising on the mouse pads and give them away at computer or internet events.
- Advertise in card decks. The card deck you advertise in should be targeted toward internet users.
You would also want to target your offline advertising to groups of people that will actually be interested in your product or service. If you're selling business books, you will want to market to business owners.
In conclusion, if you have a business that's only based online using offline advertising to make money online is a great idea because so many people today go online to get information about products and services they are interested in.

------------------------------------------------------------ A Fundamental Overview Of Pay Per Click Search Engines By Kirk Bannerman Kirk Bannerman operates a successful home based business and coaches others seeking to start their own home based business. Visit his website at http://www.business-at-home.us
Editor's Comments: I get asked more marketing questions about search engines than I do any other. Many people are confused as to what PPC engiens are and what to do with them as a marketing tool. This should help. ------------------------------------------------------------ Forbes magazine has reported that pay per click ad sales are expected to increase to at least $8 billion by 2008.
The three fundamental core elements that form the basis of a successful pay per click ad program are constant monitoring, analysis, and refinement.
Pay per click search engines offer a way to buy your way to the top of search results for any term you wish. With proper management, and a clear focus, pay per click search engines can offer some of the most well targeted and economical advertising on the Internet.
Pay per click advertising works through a bidding process, and the ads appear prominently on the results pages of search engines such as Google and Yahoo. The highest bidder for a particular word or phrase receives top placement, and depending on the engine, the top three to five bidders also generally also receive placement on the first page of unpaid search results.
Fundamental questions to be addressed when formulating a pay per click search engine strategy include the following:
When is the top pay per click bid necessary for highest conversion, and when will bidding for a second or third place position create a more attractive return on investment (ROI)?
How can you keep your PPC bids from cannibalizing your search efforts on other (non pay per click) search engines?
What percentage of your pay per click budget should go to each search engine?
Does either Google Adwords or Overture work better for your particular product or service? Or, perhaps neither one is appropriate from a return on investment (ROI) perspective.
It is of critical importance to focus sharply on identifying the search terms that convert most frequently for your particular site, eliminating those that don't perform, and most importantly, calculating and maximizing your return on investment.
The cost structure of pay per click is action-driven and each time a user clicks your ad, the pay per click engine deducts the amount of your current bid from your account. Pay per click offers a high level of assurance that your ad is reaching the proper target.
Pay per click campaigns, however, are not perfect. Without CONSTANT monitoring, you sometimes risk incurring advertising costs that can spiral out of control, focusing on terms that don't convert well for your product or services, or falling way down in position during a bidding war.
PPC advertising can be a great help to a site's success, but only with very close supervision and a thorough knowledge of the unique characteristics of each PPC search engine. ------------------------------------------------------------ If you wish to send your own articles to be reviewed for inclusion in this publication, please send them to: mailto:newsletter@aaronzwebworkz.com. ------------------------------------------------------------ Except where noted, this publication and all of its contents are copyright (C)2004 by Aaronz WebWorkz, all rights are reserved. Editor's Comments: Great article on an often-overlooked aspect of online sales. ------------------------------------------------------------ I’m a marketing consultant and at one of my client-companies, a company that, in less than 10 years, has gone from a $10 million to a $100 million dollar business one of the people I work with frequently has jokingly given herself the title, 'Vice President, Back-End.'
Although that clearly opens her up to be the butt of many jokes, it does very accurately describe her very, very important area of responsibility, in direct marketing parlance. At least 80% of the company’s profitability depends on her contributions.
If the term "back-end" is new to you, it means everything you sell your customers after their initial purchase (that first order is called the "front-end"). For instance, let’s say you sell instructional video tapes to golfers on how to play better. You advertise in golf magazines and your lead product is a $25 video on putting strategies. That’s your "front-end" because that’s what people buy first. But then once people purchase that first video, you send them a catalog offering them over 50 other golf videos ranging in price from $50 to $99. Those follow-on videos are your "back-end."
In many businesses, there is a relatively brief period of time during which there are significant, exciting profits on the front-end, that is the very first sale to a customer.
But that happy situation dissolves over time, as you "cream" the market. And, as you go deeper and deeper into a market, the cost of making the first sale (acquiring a customer) goes up and up. For instance, in the above example of the golf videos the first time you run a magazine ad you might pull 100 orders. But if you keep running it every month, your order volume will probably drop off steadily. Within six months, you’d be lucky to be selling 30 videos from the same ad in the same magazine. As some point, it gets so high it is no longer practical to advertise and sell that product to that market.
Nothing is forever. This fact of life is what mandates being smart about making all the money that you can from the back-end.
The good news is that your satisfied customers are probably willing to buy other things from you -- and they don’t even have to be your own products/services. You can make deals with other companies to offer their products/services to your customers in exchange for a piece of the action.
For instance, let’s go back to our example of the golf video company. You might do a "joint venture" with a manufacturer of special golf clubs which sell for $1,500 a set. You’ll mail a letter to your customers telling them how well these clubs will improve their golf game and you’ll get $750 on each order placed. If your customers trust you, they’ll be much more likely to respond to your letter than they would be if the golf club manufacturer mailed to them directly.
Of course you only want to recommend high-quality products and services which will be of value to your customers. But you get the idea. You could make similar deals with other companies who sell what golfers want -- golf apparel, golf trip and excursion operators, even custom home builders who sell houses near golf courses. They’d all happily pay you a 'toll' commission to sell their wares to your customers.
No matter what your business, one of the most valuable assets you have is a list of satisfied customer, predisposed to buy from you again. When you control a sizable list of customers who bought from you, know your name/business name, are happy with what they bought and with the ensuing relationship ... and are pre-disposed to read your mail and buy from you again, it’s like owning your own "toll booth."
A pioneer of direct marketing, Harvey Brody, taught me the power and value of getting into "The Toll Booth Position" and I’ve been teaching it for years. Imagine owning your own toll booth on the highway near your city. Anybody who wants to get to the other side of that toll booth has to pass through its gates and pay you money.
As the controller of a responsive customer list, that’s exactly where you are; sitting there in your own toll booth and anybody who wants to get their appropriate product or service to those customers you control, has to pay you money.
You can collect a toll through joint ventures, as described above wherein you do an endorsed mailing to your customers and get a piece of all sales that result.
Or, if you build a list of 50,000 or more, through outright lists rentals. I have a number of clients who pay all their overhead expenses every year just with the checks they get from the list broker representing their list to others.
I have often paid others to pass through their toll booths - and done so cheerfully. I have also been paid by others eager to get through my toll booth, to my customers, with my endorsement.
In the direct marketing business, it’s a well-known fact that most of the profits is derived from back-end sales to existing customers. Yet outside that business, I rarely encounter a company which comes anywhere close to tapping the potential of establishing their own "toll booth position." Get started building yours right now and start charging others to go down your road.
------------------------------------------------------------ From The Webmaster by Aaron Turpen, Editor ------------------------------------------------------------ Holy crap, I can't believe it's already been a week! I am amazed at how much I managed to accomplish this week. I have been so productive, my hands are sore. Really.
Quit making dirty jokes, you perv!
Actually, I've done a fair bit of manual labor the last little while and my hands literally are sore, dry, and cracking. It's been a while since I've done this sort of thing on a regular basis. :)
On the up side, I've lost some weight and have proven that even though I spend an inordinate amount of time sitting in a chair, I still have the farm-boy work ethic and strength of body.
So I feel good. ------------------------------------------------------------ Are You an Entrepreneur That is Starved for Time? By Vishal P. Rao Vishal P. Rao is the editor of http://www.home-based-business-opportunities.com - A website dedicated to opportunities, ideas and resources for starting a home based business. He is also the owner of the http://www.work-at-home-forum.com - an online community of folks who work at home.
Editor's Comments: Just the title of this one caught my attention enough to know I had to include it here. :) ------------------------------------------------------------ Being an entrepreneur and running a successful home-based business is stressful at times, and can be hectic. Success within a home-based business though, absolutely demands time management skills, or the chores that need to get done will be left undone, and procrastination, as well as a serious "personal time deficiency" will occur.
Several studies have shown that many first-time entrepreneurs spend too much time on "non-essential" activities within a business, activities that have nothing to do with business, or that have little impact on business success. At the end of each business day (when it finally ends), they are left feeling stressed out, burned out, separated from their personal lives, and worse yet, with a feeling of non-accomplishment and inefficiency.
You probably have met entrepreneurs like this occasionally in your own life. They constantly seem "busy", yet they are constantly late for appointments, don't ever have time to attend personal activities or outings, and are always stressed out about what still "needs to be done" each and every day!
A "personal time deficiency" occurs when an entrepreneur seems to spend all their time either working on the business, or thinking about the business. The entrepreneur can neglect family, friends, activities and personal pleasures, in pursuit of business functions. This is not only counter-productive to the business (creativity shines through when entrepreneurs also schedule time away from the business), but personal losses can occur to the entrepreneur. Horror stories abound about divorce among entrepreneurs, shattered family lives, and personal ruin.
What causes "personal time deficiencies"? A variety of factors:
1. An entrepreneur does not sufficiently plan every activity during the working day, with a pre-set amount of time allotted for each business activity. Without an active "work schedule", an entrepreneur can feel unrestricted, and therefore spend too much time on some activities and not enough on others. All activities should be done "on schedule" if possible and within a certain amount of time. Too much "fussing" over each activity will lead to very little accomplishment each day. Neglect of other activities will lead to a sense of little accomplished.
2. An entrepreneur becomes distracted quite easily during the business day. Personal phone calls and activities need to be kept to a minimum. If an entrepreneur were working outside their own business, for someone else, they would not have the luxury of "dropping everything" and going shopping or out to lunch, if time were not allotted for this! Also, family members and friends could not drop in and "visit" whenever they liked. A work-at-home business needs to be viewed as any other type of employment, where personal distractions could not, and do not exist!
3. Lack of a succinct business plan that effectively spells out business activities that need to be completed in an organized step-by-step fashion and that entails certain accomplishments within a certain timeframe. A business plan is essential for success in any work-at-home business, just as in bigger businesses. A business plan is the "blueprint" used for mapping out "where" a business is headed, and just "when" it will arrive! A good business plan will have weekly, monthly and yearly growth accomplishments built into it, with planned implementations towards that growth.
4. An entrepreneur does not possess enough self-motivation to "be their own boss". Half the battle of running a successful home-based business is having the correct mindset to do so. The gap between "employee thought processes" and "business owner processes" must be bridged before business organization is accomplished. Motivation is different in an entrepreneurial endeavor, as no "boss" is standing over the entrepreneur, making certain they finish the allotted chores each day.
5. An entrepreneur does not actively "separate" business and personal time in their minds, and plan their personal time as effectively as they do their business activities. Having personal time will refresh and energize, not distract from the success of a home-based business. It is absolutely necessary to plan personal activities into each day, and also stick by the plan for those activities. This is an emotional health issue, and one that needs consideration by every entrepreneur, as it is oftentimes too easy to become caught up in the business to the exclusion of all else.
Overall, all the above aspects need to be managed in order to balance an entrepreneurial lifestyle. The life of an entrepreneur is without a doubt, an "atypical" lifestyle. It is a lifestyle that needs more work and more determination than other types of lifestyles. Time and energy can be balanced in this lifestyle, but it may take a while to achieve this. When a balance is achieved, "time starvation" will disappear! ------------------------------------------------------------ Overture is known for being the Leader in "Per Per Click" (PPC). Owned by Yahoo, Overture advertisers can reach over 80% of Internet users. If you take a closer look and pop the hood, you'll find a whole suite of useful tools for Marketers.
1) Precision Match: This is where Overture began, back when it was known as GoTo.com. Precision Match is the original "bid for keyword" search engine, and it's still a core utility for Overture users. You select your keywords/phrases and the amount you want to pay per click and you are only charged that amount when someone clicks through to your website.
Overture has relationships with Yahoo, MSN, Altavista, Infospace and others. By bidding into the top three positions, you'll also enjoy exposure on those top search engines as well under what's called "Sponsored Listings." For more, see... http://www.content.overture.com/d/USm/ays/index.jhtml
2) Content Match: Unlike "Precision Match," where your listings appear on search results pages, "Content Match" displays your listings alongside articles, product reviews, etc. Currently these listings appear on many of Yahoo's content areas (including Entertainment, Finance & Shopping), MSN content areas (including Money & Tech & Gadgets), and other online destinations.
Your listing will only appear on Content Pages that are relevant to your service or product. For example, if you sell fishing gear, your listing might appear on a web page that contains articles or other information on how to be a better angler.
You can set your bids for Content Match separately from those on Precision Match, giving you the opportunity to track results to see which type is converting best for you.
If you use "Precision Match," Content Match can be turned on or off from within the control panel. For more on this, see... http://www.content.overture.com/d/USm/ays/ays_cm.jhtml
3) Local Match: If you want to target customers in a certain geographic area then you'll want to take a look at "Local Match." This would be perfect for Mom and Pop operators or those who sell products and services to a local crowd only. There is no monthly minimum, with the minimum bid of only 10 cents per click. This service can be used by those who don't have a website, as Overture sets up a landing page for users of this service. Called a "Locator Page," it displays a map, store hours and a link to your site (if you have one). Local Match listings appear on CitySearch, AltaVista, Yahoo, AllTheWeb and more. For more on Local Search, see http://www.content.overture.com/d/USm/ays/lm.jhtml
4) Marketing Console: Helps you to measure all of your online marketing campaigns so you know where you're getting the best return for your money. Track your Pay Per Click Bids, email ads, banner ads, affiliate program and more. This site will also tell you how well your website is converting leads to actual sales. To use this service, you'll need to paste some JavaScript code onto your pages.
Depending on the package chosen, pricing starts at $149.00 a month and goes up from there. For more on Marketing Console, see: http://www.content.overture.com/d/USm/ays/mc.jhtml
5) Site Match: This is a component of Yahoo's Search Content Acquisition Program. By submitting to "Site Match," you'll ensure your pages are reviewed and included in Yahoo, AltaVista, AllTheWeb, and others. Your site will not be shown under "sponsored listings," but appear in the main body of the search results pages. You must pay an annual fee for inclusion, which is $49.00 for the first URL and a cost per click for each click thru of $.15 to $.30 depending on the category chosen. See this page for more: http://www.content.overture.com/d/USm/ays/sm.jhtml
6) Conversion Counter: Free tool that tracks the number of conversions that are generated from your keywords listings at Overture. A conversion happens when someone enters your site and performs an action, such as buying something or signing up for your ezine or free report.
To use "Conversion Counter," you'll need to sign up for it in Overture's Control Panel, then copy some HTML code onto one page of your site (generally the sales confirmation page).
7) Merchant Solutions: Since Yahoo owns Overture, you'll also find a variety of tools for small business owners, such as:
A) Shopping Carts B) Web Hosting and Email Accounts C) Domain Name Registrations
For more details, see: http://www.content.overture.com/d/USm/ays/yms.jhtml
As you can see, Overture has come a long way from just offering a "one size fits all" Pay Per Click Solution. By utilizing their variety of tools, you'll increase your website exposure and spend your marketing dollars more wisely.
------------------------------------------------------------ From The Webmaster by Aaron Turpen, Editor ------------------------------------------------------------ Wow, there's a lot of cool stuff out there. I ran out of books to read and have started catching up on some of my magazine and industry-specific publications. I'm a little behind. :)
Anyway, there are a ton of new products and cool tech- nologies showing up! I may have to wax nostalgic and write a Tech Update column again...
One of the bigger pieces of news is Microsoft's announcement that the next version of Windows (code named Longhorn) will be released in 2006, but will not have several of the new features and enhancements previously announced for it. One of those is the new file system.
Companies who sell Linux bundles (like RedHat and Lindows) were quick to make announcements of thier own and will be smart to take advantage of this apparent weakness on Microsoft's part.
I think that the age of "big, bloated, single-release aps." (applications like Windows, Word, etc.) that are updated once every couple of years are numbered. I think a lot of the newer, more efficient things being used by open source software now, will take its place: where a base product is released and then periodic updates to it are made at the user's discretion to ad functionality or enhancements as the user prefers.
We shall see. ------------------------------------------------------------ Readers Talk Back! ------------------------------------------------------------ "Rock on!" --Anonymous

------------------------------------------------------------ Think You Can’t Afford the Help You Need? Think Again! Copyright 2004 Diane Hughes * ProBizTips.com FREE Report: Amazingly Simple (Yet Super Powerful) Ways To Skyrocket Your Sales And Build Your Business Into A Tower of Profits! ==>> http://madmarketer.com/diane
------------------------------------------------------------ So many small business owners - especially those who work from home - are very pressed for time. After all, as an independent professional, you must wear the hats of: accountant, salesperson, customer service representative, marketing manager, distribution manager, tax professional, and countless others. While you may need help desperately, you probably think you can’t afford to hire someone. The truth be known, you can actually SAVE money by using an assistant.
Think of it this way. How do you make your money? Providing a product? Offering a service? Soliciting memberships? Regardless, you have to DO something (promote the product, perform the service, solicit the membership) to get that money. When you must be all things to all people, it takes valuable time away from the one thing that brings in cash for you. Hiring an assistant can free you up to make more money.
Here’s an example:
Let’s say you spend 10 hours a week on actual moneymaking ventures. Your average income in one week is $1,000. You spend the other 30 hours per week answering emails, doing bookkeeping, providing customer service support, and so on. If you could delegate many of the duties that don’t absolutely require your attention to an assistant, you could devote possibly 20 more hours to making money. That would give you 30 hours a week to make money and only 10 hours per week to do other things.
Don’t think you can afford an assistant? Oh, sure you can! Virtual Assistants perform a wide range of duties at very reasonable rates. They work via phone, email, fax, and postal mail rather than being a full-time employee of your business. This way, you only pay for the services you need.
Let’s say you DO hire a Virtual Assistant. He/she works 20 hours week for a rate of $35 per hour. That equals $700. On the other hand, YOU spend those 20 hours a week making more money. That would give you an additional $2,000 per week (using the same example above). You would actually make MORE money ($1,300 more) hiring a Virtual Assistant than you would doing it all yourself.
Where do you find good Virtual Assistants? You can search the Web, ask your business associates for recommendations, or check out some of the Virtual Assistant (VA) directories online such as http://www.assistu.com. I highly recommend http://www.kesslerva.com.
Whoever you choose, make sure they have experience performing the duties you want to delegate. Also, be sure they allow hourly work without contracts (at least in the beginning) so that you can get a feel for how he/she does business.
Virtual Assistants can free you up to do what you do best, make money. This is a very affordable alternative to running yourself ragged, and trying to do everything yourself. After all, isn’t one of the perks of being a business owner supposed to be more freedom?! ------------------------------------------------------------ Streaming Online: Music and Movies by Aaron Turpen of Aaronz WebWorkz ------------------------------------------------------------ The world of media is changing - despite the protests of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) - and streaming media from the Internet has become more and more popular worldwide. In fact, those who were savvy enough to get in on the Internet media revolution early--such as Napster 2, MusicMatch, and others--are reporting record sales for 2003-2004.
So what's all the hype?
Well, a lot of illegal file sharing, especially of music and video, coupled with lower sales overall for music and video (thanks to a sagging economy) has put the recording and movie industries on the attack. Currently, RIAA has over 3500 lawsuits in process or pending versus otherwise- ordinary Americans for sharing files illegally via the Internet. The number of cases grows weekly.
At the same time, smart companies like MusicMatch, iTunes, RealPlay, and others have licensed several hundred thousand songs and movies to resell on the Internet as streaming or downloadable media to those who want to pay for them. With songs at an average cost of less than $1 and full CDs of music at under the average $15 store price, downloadable media has become more popular than ever.
Why The Change?
The change in streaming media availability and the people who ask for it (simple market economics of supply and demand) was brought about by the proliferation of high-speed Internet connections. With a current estimation of 45% of connected homes having a broadband connection in the US alone, it's easy to see how the file sizes involved in down- loading media have become less and less of a consideration for consumers.
Ad to these factors the additional advent of better and better compression technology to make those file sizes smaller and smaller, and you've got a combination of reasons for online media to get more and more popular.
Where do I get the music?
Anyone with an Internet connection and a credit card to use online can buy legal media. Several services offer streaming (play on demand, "streaming" from the 'Net) and downloadable (so you can play it without being connected) music and movies online.
With Apple's iTunes Radio (http://www.apple.com/itunes/ ), for instance, you can stream over 1,000 Internet radio stations and through their music store, you can play 30- second samples of each song and pay for each song you'd like to download.
At MusicMatch (http://www.jdoqocy.com/click-1357406-9358552), you can download and burn CDs of music for only 99 cents per song.
At the ReaplPlayer Music Store (http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-1357406-10304550 ), you can stream, download, and even share (via email playlists) music with your friends - all for a fee, of course. In fact, of the services I checked out, RealPlayer has the most to offer in terms of music file types, ways to play it (streaming, download, etc.) and so forth. Apple has threatened to sue RealPlayer for offering music in Apple's proprietary DRM format-a fact that has many geeks puzzled as Apple is supposedly the counter-culture, free-spirit alternative in computers.
Not to be outdone, Napster 2 (http://www.qksrv.net/click-1353518-8353202) debuted this year with both a streaming and downloadable music store with one of the easiest to use layouts you'll find anywhere. Napster has gone legal with a lot of style, that's for sure.
For free and less mainstream music, I prefer both Better Propaganda (http://www.betterpropaganda.com) and GarageBand.com (http://www.garageband.com). Both sites offer free downloads of music with reviews and other interesting goodies too. Through these sites, I've become a fan of bands like Threat Signal, Stigma, and Leftover Crack. Give them a try!
What about movies?
Renting movies online has never been easier either. Although this concept is fairly new and hasn't become nearly as popular as music, it's catching hold and getting there. There are really only two major players in this game, though a third is rising fast.
Cinemanow (http://www.cinemanow.com) has a lot of great content, ranging from family cartoons to PG and PG-13 cinema all the way to commercial pornography. The selection is huge, but is limited to streaming-only (no downloading for later play). You can usually rent movies for 24 hours and play them as many times as you'd like during that time.
Movielink (http://www.movielink.com) offers most of the major Hollywood productions you'll find at most video stores (like Blockbuster), but doesn't have the diversity that Cinemanow does. On the up side, you can download movies for later viewing and keep them for up to thirty days, so movies on the road or whenever you don't have a 'Net connection are possible here.
The up-and-comer is Starz! Ticket (http://www.starzticket.com), which has a monthly subscription cost that allows you to watch any (or all) of their movies whenever you'd like and you can download them for later viewing (thirty days). However, they have only 100 movies online at any given time, so selection is very limited for now.
For free movies (short films), my favorite is Atom Films (http://atomfilms.shockwave.com), where you'll find great cartoons, comedy, and other shorts like "Olympics" and "Autobank." Try it out!!
Tres cool!
But of course it is. Now that you've found out what you're broadband connection is REALLY for, go to town! Start surfing music and movie sites and fill your hard drive with media!
------------------------------------------------------------ From The Webmaster by Aaron Turpen, Editor ------------------------------------------------------------ This has been a really great week. A long weekend...new prospects...and an excuse to try out some new streaming media sites (above article). :)
We're coming up on the holiday season for online sellers, so I'll be publishing some articles on the subject soon. I know it sucks to be talking about the Holidays already, but they're on the way!
I'd also like to say goodbye to a friend of mine, Mark, who passed away recently. Mark was one of the key people at the Online Auction Academy (I publish their newsletter weekly) and was someone I would consider a good person to be around. He'll be missed. ------------------------------------------------------------ Readers Talk Back! ------------------------------------------------------------ "Lawyers are the larval form of politicians." --Jim D.
"I hope you can help me or answer this in your next ezine. A customer in Singapore sent me a Bank Draft as payment. Is this like a money order or a check? Should I wait for the funds to clear?" --Randy Z.
Editor: Hi, Randy. This is similar to a money order, but not quite the same. Your bank will likely not accept it as "cash" like they would a money order, so I would advise that you deposit it and wait for it to clear like a personal check. Also, be sure that it's drawn on US funds or you may end up paying extra fees and foreign exchange rates. ------------------------------------------------------------ If you would like to send a comment or letter to the editor for inclusion in this newsletter, please address it to: mailto:newsletter@aaronzwebworkz.com?subject=TalkBack!. All are welcome to give their opinion, criticism, or kudos!
------------------------------------------------------------ Google's Adsense Program Expands with Web Search By http://MCPromotionsPress.com Merle http://EzineAdAuction.com "Where Some of the BEST Deals in Ezine Ads are Made" Need help with your website traffic? Then you need this home study course which shows you step by step how to market and promote your site the right way. http://www.mcpromotions.com/johnreese.htm
Editor's Comments: To see this in action, visit my non- profit site http://www.CivilDisobedience.us and http://www.UtahFreedomActivist.com ------------------------------------------------------------ When Google launched Adsense, millions of website owners scurried to sign up. By adding "AdWords Text Ads" to your website, you can make a nice little income with no work on your part. Once the code is placed on a page, Google scans it for a theme and shows ads related to the content it finds.
Google is never one to rest on its laurels, and is constantly adding features and improving the program. The latest news is "Adsense for Search." Thousands of people love to search with Google and now they can do so without leaving your site, giving you another opportunity to make money with the Adsense Program.
With "WebSearch," users can search not only Google, but if you choose the option, they can search your site as well. Adsense Ads, targeted to the users' searches are shown next to the results, just as they are if they performed the search at Google itself.
So how does the search box look on your website? Google makes it easy for you to customize the look of WebSearch to make it match the feel of your site. You can add your own Logos, change colors, title, text colors and more. Google offers over 200 colors to choose from.
So what are the benefits of adding "WebSearch" to your site? Well, if you don't have search capabilities for your own website, this is an easy way to add it. Also, it may keep visitors on your website longer and gives them a useful tool that they may come back and use more often. It also gives you another way to generate income from Adsense itself.
If you're worried about the types of sites that may be returned in the search results, Google has a "safe search" option that allows you to exclude adult related content from appearing on your site.
Like "Adsense for Content," "Adsense for Search" requires you to already have an account with Google and be approved for their program.
If you'd like to turn on WebSearch for your site, you'll need to log into your account and grab the code to paste onto your pages.
On a side note, Google has also added some other really nice features to Adsense:
1) Preview Tool: A free download for Internet Explorer 6.0 so you can preview what Adsense Ads will look like on your web pages. It installs itself as an add-on to your right- click menu. It allows you to try out different ad formats and color combinations. Advertisers are not charged for ads that are clicked on from within the Preview Tool. For more information, go to: http://www.Google.com/adsense/previewtool
2) Languages Added: Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish for Websearch and Adsense for Content.
3) More Channels: You can now create up to 50 channels for Adsense and 50 for WebSearch for a total of 100 different channels across your sites.
4) Ad Format: Another new ad format size of 234x60 horizontal banner.
5) Image Ads: Option to display not only text ads on your website, but image ads as well, or a combination of both.
Google is constantly making changes and adding features to its Adsense Program, which is a good thing for website owners everywhere. By implementing AdSearch on your pages, you can add related content for your site's visitors and also earn a nice little income, to boot. For more on the program go to http://www.google.com/adsense
